A Weekend in Wine Country

It’s been a busy month for Rachel and I. We moved at the beginning of the month to a new apartment (and we should probably post some photos of that soon). We’re slowly getting settled but it’s been tough because my parents were in town a couple weeks later, then we were in Sonoma County visiting Rachel’s grandparents and now we’re in La Mirada for Thanksgiving!

We had a great time in Cloverdale, California. Our Baker grandparent’s home is beautiful and sits on almost 200 acres of land. We took a 20 minute walk on Friday and didn’t see even half of the property. On Friday we also took a nice drive for lunch in Occidental. We took the scenic route there which took about an hour and a half. Unfortunately, I was driving so we don’t have any pictures but it was a beautiful overcast day and the vineyards were all red and orange.  We also saw Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 Friday night.

Saturday was nice and relaxing. It was raining off and on most of the day so we sat inside by the fire and read and watched a few movies. We also took advantage of a break in the rain to take a few photos for our Christmas card (coming soon!). On Sunday we left in the morning with enough time to spend about an hour in San Francisco before we had to be a the airport. We had just enough time to snap a few photos at the Golden Gate Bridge and run into Ghirardelli to buy some chocolate.

And now for the photos and a video from the weekend.

The BIG one!

Austin and I have a deal every October.   He takes me to a pumpkin patch and I am allowed to get the largest pumpkin I can carry.  Austin and I worked out this deal last year when he realized that my perfect pumpkin was the largest one I could find.  To say the least, he felt it was necessary to draw some boundaries especially after it became clear I wanted his help carrying the pumpkin.  So this year I set my hopes high and did a few extra push ups to ensure that I was in prime pumpkin picking shape. I told Austin, “This is the year of the BIG one!”  Of course Austin found my can-do-attitude adorable and a little unrealistic…

For anyone looking for a large pumpkin in San Diego there is only one place to go.  Bates Nut Farm!  It is our pumpkin patch of choice.  This year we were lucky enough to be accompanied by our nieces, Emily & Katie, and my sister Liz.  We had a blast and everyone enjoyed watching me struggle to pick up pumpkins that were obviously way too large for me.   You know you have hit a new low when your 3 year only niece is laughing at you…  So after some spirited attempts I realized that my perfect pumpkin is a cute (medium sized) white one.

My unsuccessful  attempt at picking up a large pumpkin.
